French Spying Continues
The September 1998 issue of the CIND reported that France systematically listens in on the telephone conversations and cable traffic of many businesses based in the United States and other nations. Recent information from the Sunday Times reveals new insights into that activity, namely that French intelligence is intercepting British businessmen's calls from eight centers scattered across France. According to unidentified French sources, the targets have included the digital mobile phones of executives at British Aerospace, British Petroleum, and British Airways. This is being accomplished by targeting individual numbers or sweeping sets of numbers.
